Workshop: Woodcut Design - How to Create my Own Poster / Logo

Dieser Workshop führt die Teilnehmer:innen in die Technik des Holzdruckes ein und zielt darauf ab, eigene Entwürfe zu entwickeln. Die besonderen Merkmale des Holzschnitts, wie z.B. die kontrastreichen und klaren Formen und Konturen, werden vor allem im Hinblick auf die Verwendung für moderne, populäre Designs besprochen. Die Teilnehmer:innen entwerfen und drucken, z.B. eigene Etikettenentwürfe für ihr Lieblingsgetränk, ein Logo für die Familie oder ein Plakat für die Lieblingsmusikband zu entwickeln.

Die Technik und Kunst des Holzschnitts hat in der brasilianischen Geschichte eine lange und komplexe Entwicklung hinter sich. Die traditionelle und natürliche Form des Reliefdrucks wurde nicht nur zu Kunstzwecken, sondern auch in der Populärkultur und in den Medien verwendet. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde er in großem Umfang für Illustrationen verwendet, sowohl für Bücher und Zeitschriften als auch für Werbung und andere kommerzielle Drucksachen wie Etiketten für verschiedene Produkte auf dem lokalen Markt.

This workshop introduces the participants in the technique of relief printing and aims on developing own designs. The special features of woodcut design, such as the rich contrasts and clear shapes and outlines etc. will be discussed especially in terms of using it for modern popular designs. The participants develop and print, for instance, own label designs for their preferred local drink, a logo for the family or a poster for the favorite music band.

The technique and art of woodcut printing has a long and complex development in Brazilian history. The traditional and natural form of relief printing was not only used for illustrational and artistic purposes but also in popular culture and media. During the nineteenth century, it was widely used for direct illustration purposes, both for books and periodicals, and especially for advertisements and other commercial printed matter such as labels for various products in the local market.
