Taking the legendary figure of Leopoldine, Archduchess of Austria and later Empress of Brazil (1797-1826) as a starting point for their investigation, the Brazilian artists, Alina d’Alva Duchrow, Georgia Creimer and Vitória Monteiro, shed light on individual events in her tragically short life.
Georgia Creimer invites us to experience the newly wed Archduchess before her departure for Brazil from a psychological perspective with an atmospheric film. Vitória Monteiro deals with Leopoldine's biography of violence, appoints her as an avatar for women* with similar experiences and lets her take shape again on the billboard in the front garden. Together with women* who have fled violence recently, she produces a protective cloak (poncho), which will be presented at the opening of the exhibition. Alina d'Alva Duchrow researches the "surviving image" of Leopoldine in Brazil, focusing on the Zona Leopoldina, a district of Rio de Janeiro full of socio-economic contrasts, which today is known above all for its Favelas and Carnival parades.
